The Special Couple: Hannah + Phillip

THE FIRST SIGHT & PROPOSAL

We met on 30th March 2012. I first saw Phil outside V Bar in the city. However, we didn't speak until we were inside Mizuya Karaoke Bar, where Phil sat next to me, and we got to chatting; he walked me home that night.

Seven and half years into our relationship, Phil proposed. We went to Tasmania for a small getaway. We stayed near Wine Glass Bay during our trip, where I insisted on going for a hike. We were driving back from the Lobster Shack, and Phil suddenly turned into a street. I told him he was going the wrong way, but he kept driving, and at the end of this street was a seaplane. I instantly freaked out. Phil said this was a better way of seeing Wine Glass Bay, and he knew I was not too fond of hikes, so we hopped into the plane. It flew us half-hour to a place called Maria Island.

An hour before taking off, it was pouring rain. As we started our flight, the sky cleared into such a beautiful clear blue day; it was a bit of sunshine within a rainy week in Tazzie. There was no runway on the island, so we landed on the grass with hundreds of wombats and kangaroos on the landing strip. It was like something out of a movie. The captain dropped us off with a 'see you in 4 hours'', and we explored. Phil had packed a picnic basket for which we found a little spot just by the sea to set up a picnic rug. Phil took out some binoculars for me because he knew I loved looking for sea animals and proceeded to distract my attention by telling me he saw some dolphins in the distance. Gullible me believed him and tried to find these dolphins when I turned around; Phil said he had something to read to me and took out an essay length letter. He started to read this beautiful love letter but struggled to finish it as he was crying; when the letter reading finished, he got down and one knee and proposed.

THE INSPIRATION & VENUE

I love the colours of peach, corals, reds and orchids and had that as a starting inspiration for my day. My friend from Sweet Botanica helped me with the themed of my wedding, she knew what she was doing, and she made it look incredible.

THE BRIDAL LOOK & DRESS

For my wedding dress, I wanted simple but elegant. I looked for one that had no lace and something a bit more modern.
I went with my cousin to my Eternal Bridal appointment after the Bridal Expo, and I was feeling a little flustered about trying on gowns based on how I felt in previous wedding dresses as my weight had been a problem for me. I tried on over 15 wedding gowns. I initially wanted a princess styled gown with a massive train. I had seen a ballgown wedding dress on the Eternal Bridal website and immediately put it on my wish list. I had tried on four gowns at the boutique when my bridesmaid gave me a sheath style dress; I wasn't sold on it. That is until I put it on and fell in love. It made me tear up, and I felt beautiful in it. I don't usually feel that way about clothing, but this hit the spot. I felt so comfortable, so pretty in it that I knew it was the one. I felt confident in this gown and knew it was the one.

THE BEST THING ABOUT OUR DAY

Due to covid, we had over 100 changed in our wedding day plan. Highlight of our day would have been the small moments with Phil. He kept taking me aside to be alone and kept saying, 'this was the best day ever, and he's so appreciative of how much we were loved''. These were the moments many people don't get to have as they have so much throughout the day. Our reception had been delay until September, so we had a bit more time on our hands.

HANNAH'S ADVICE

If you can get through a pandemic without pulling out hair, you can do anything. Things will fall into place. Moments such as trying on dresses or picking up your gown are precious moments to cherish on your wedding preparation journey.
