REAL BRIDE MILLY TIES THE KNOT IN ENZOANI

Surrounded by family, friends, and the ocean, Milly said “I do” to her soul mate on August 29th 2024. We spoke with Sydney Real Bride Milly to hear all about her swoon-worthy proposal, planning her coastal destination wedding, why every bride needs to believe in the power of manifestation, and more.

Let’s go back to where it all began. When and how did you meet your significant other?

I actually met my now-husband through my family when I was 19 (many moons ago.) He was my younger sister's cricket coach, who I always thought was pretty "hot!" Especially being 4 years older than me, at that age I was pretty infatuated by him. My parents would often invite him in for tea (very English) and I'd look forward to those moments getting to know him. My sister noticed the spark and actually played cupid to get us together ~ and here we are 13+ years later and now married.

How did your now-husband propose?

He tricked me into thinking we were taking our newly-renovated campervan away for the first time one weekend ~ when in actual fact he had booked the most gorgeous house on the water in Mollymook. I was so taken aback by surprise, I'd actually changed into my trackie pants for full comfort mode, as little did I know what was coming. He had made a photo album with all of our favourite memories from the past 11 years together, and at the end he had the special note written "Will you marry me?" He got down on one knee which I LOVED! And then I spent the next 20 minutes crying my eyes out whilst he patiently waited for that "yes!" It was the most intimate, thoughtful, perfectly "us" proposal I could have asked for.

Was there a theme for your wedding? What inspired you while styling your dream day?

Our main goal was to create a relaxed holiday-vibe for all of our friends and family as it was a destination wedding in Port Douglas QLD ~ we wanted the whole wedding to feel calm, fun and full of love. With that, I created a very neutral colour palette for the styling and florals: we had beautiful white & dusty pinks roses and baby's breath, as well as natural textures through the table decor, and lots of candles. As a yoga teacher and having a spiritual practice myself, I also wanted to bring this into the day, so had little rose quartz and clear quartz crystals on the table settings for everybody to take home ~ I really thought about the small details. I also created personal polaroid photos of each guest with their name on for their seating place card, which lead to some happy tears. I extended this calm, Zen vibe out to the guests' dress code ~ I didn't mind how casual or smart guests dressed (shorts for the guys were encouraged) however I asked for no bright colours to be worn. Standing at the front and looking out at everybody in a soft, neutral palette was breathtaking.

What was the inspiration behind your bridal look?

Gosh ~ I have always envisioned some sort of lace in my dress design, however I didn't go into the process with a set vision in mind. The chiffon A-line shape gave me space to feel comfortable and dance, plus being an ocean-side wedding I wanted to feel right for the setting, with an air of whimsicalness about my bridal look. To compliment that, I opted for hair down and super dewy bronze makeup. I have the BEST hair & makeup artist, who is also a dear friend, so she HAD to be flown up from Sydney to Port Douglas for the wedding. I had a last minute change of shoes as I had injured my foot at my hens, however this didn't really bother me. And then I changed into my white Cowboy Boots for the reception so I could fully hit the dancefloor and let my hair down!

Describe your ‘yes to the dress’ moment. How did you feel and what made you say ‘yes’?

I was super open to trying on EVERY style and I did. The dress I ended up choosing was beyond perfect. The lace on the bodice and the train was so delicate and elegant ~ in a beautiful way it really reminded me of my beloved Granny. I took my bridesmaid Nicole with me and made sure to FaceTime my Mum from the UK so she could feel a part of it. I had so much fun "playing" with all the different styles, however when I tried them all on a second time in that fitting I just KNEW this was the one ~ I couldn't stop smiling!

How was your experience at Eternal Bridal?

Honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The team is so beautiful, patient, honest and caring. Lauren went above and beyond to make me feel at ease with such a big decision, and kept in contact with me throughout the whole process up until the wedding. The team is incredibly approachable and kind ~ I was quite sad on our last goodbye!

What was the highlight of your special day?

Having all of our friends and family from across the world in one place, altogether. Bringing our two worlds together from the UK and Australia is a once in a lifetime moment.

If you could go back in time and give your newly-engaged self one piece of advice, what would it be?

The power of manifestation ~ believing it will all work out on the day. And it really did!
