The Special Couple: Amber + Ben
THE FIRST SIGHT & PROPOSAL
We met five years ago at our local Sunday afternoon spot. We had some mutual friends that introduced us, and we hit it off straight away. He was my equal in sarcasm and wit, so we talked for hours.
We were in Niseko, Japan, on a snowboarding trip. I had taken some time off during the day and didn't realise Ben had been finding a beautiful spot looking down over the mountain where he would propose. He made me go up the mountain for one last run even though I was exhausted. Halfway down, Ben got me to snowboard to the spot and knelt on one knee. He proposed to me with a diamond so that I could design the ring of my dreams, although as he took the box out of his pockets, it slid open, and we almost lost the diamond in the very deep, powdery snow. Thankfully that was not the case! It was the perfect engagement; it was just the two of us doing something we both love to do—every year since we have gone back to that spot.
THE INSPIRATION & VENUE
I have a very simplistic style; I believe less is more. I wanted my dress to be the piece that stood out all day, so I styled it in a very minimalist way with white linen and green & white foliage. Our location was at Summergrove, and it had the most beautiful white barn and stunning views. It was the perfect spot for simple styling that would be complemented by the gorgeous afternoon sun.
THE BRIDAL LOOK & SAYING 'YES' TO THE DRESS
I love designers such as Galia Lahav, Pallas Couture and Berta. I have been following their gowns well before getting engaged. I wanted my dress to be a standout piece and everything else to softly complement it.
I had tried on approximately 12 gowns before trying on my Galia Lahav dress. My maid of honour chose my dress, so I didn't see it until it was in the room. It was the first dress that fit perfectly straight off the rack, which was a sign that it was made for me! The stunning lace with the most beautiful flower detailing and the silhouette the dress gave me were what made me fall in love with it.
THE ETERNAL BRIDAL GALIA LAHAV TRUNK SHOW EXPERIENCE
I had a fantastic experience with Eternal Bridal. I went to their Galia Lahav trunk show on the Gold Coast at Versace Hotel. It was absolute perfection from the moment we arrived and popped a bottle of champagne. The dresses were incredible, and I honestly didn't think I would be able to choose just one. The Eternal Bridal stylists were so incredibly helpful and never once pushed me to make my decision.
THE BEST THING ABOUT OUR DAY
I was extremely stress-free on the day of the wedding. I had such a sense of calm just knowing that I was marrying the man of my dreams. After the ceremony, when we were taking photos, Ben said he was also extremely calm and felt no nerves. It was beautiful to know that we were both feeling the same way at the exact moment. Our portrait session was my highlight, we had the most stunning light, and we got to spend time together away from everything, talking and laughing (not posed). We were lucky that our photographer and videographer were also friends, so nothing felt staged; it was very natural and fun.
Don't stress over minor details. It is nice for everything to run perfectly, but at the end of the day, the most important thing is that you will spend the rest of your life with the person you love. It will be the most amazing day/night of your life, no matter what happens. Just embrace being surrounded by all your loved ones, and make sure you take a little time out for just the two of you.
